All The Ralph Lauren Christmas Inspo You Need

Well I’m just going to come right out and admit that TikTok got me with this one, because it’s October and I’m alresdy eagerly planning my Ralph Lauren Christmas aesthetic. I usually try and wait until November to think about holiday decor, but I’m kind of obsessed with the idea of a RL Christmas, and I feel like I need to start my thrifting and bookmarking soon so I can slowly transition my house over the next few months.

I actually had to run to Marshall’s today to grab my daughter some new pants, and planned to, you know, just pop into the holiday decor aisles (because they’re already full of course) to see if they had anything to fit my timeless, preppy, traditional holiday vibe, and I was overwhelmed within 5 minutes. Just like when I decorate a roon, when I decorate for the holidays, I need a plan or things go very haywire.

So instead, I left empty handed (except for a couple of cute pink Nike tracksuits in size 4T) , and decided to make a plan for my decor before buying anything. I’ve rounded up some of the inspo I love most, plus a list of some items on my Ralph Lauren Christmas must-buy list … but before that, I wanted to also share this funny/amazing Tiktok of a former Ralph Lauren employee sharing the rules of the vibe:

How to get the Ralph Lauren Christmas Aesthetic

Would you like to save this?

We'll email this post to you, so you can come back to it later!

So, overall, what I get from this video is:

  • Use one plaid per room!
  • No holiday signage
  • Wrapping paper must be uniform, ditto for bows and ribbon
  • No gift bags, only wrapped boxes
  • No overhead lights, lamps and sconces only

While I’m no former Ralph Lauren employee, I would add a few more points to her lovely list:

  • Use a rich, traditional color palette like deep red, forest greens, navy, cream, gold and plated silver accents
  • Natural & classic textures / materials like cable knit, leather, tweed
  • Mix of formal & cozy
  • Lots of fresh greenery and natural details like pomanders and dried oranges

Ralph Lauren Christmas Inspiration

So now that we get the gist of the look, here are the RL Christmas-style images that caught my eye. I’m not gonna lie, it was harder than I thought to track down good photo inspiration, because so much of it was AI!

The combo of white interiors, rich velvet and the natural garland/wreath would be RL approved.

This is like a perfet take on the look, from the lighting, to the uniform red ribbon on the presents.

Love this slightly more vintage, old-school New England take on the vibe. And I especially love the idea of incorporating blue and white into a Christmas scheme.

Silver plated accents are a must for a Ralph Lauren Christmas. (Also, Josh Young always does such a beautiful job with his holiday decor).

More silver plating, this time mixed with plaids and greenery.

This room goes against the rule of mixing plaids, but I think doing so creates a more casual version of an RL Christmas.

Classic red satin or velvet ribbon also feels like a staple of the look.

I love how simple this look is – just some greenery, a pop of plaid and some red ribbon.

Here is an example of a tablescape that sticks to one plaid (with the napkins and table covering), and I do see the point of how it just looks so elevated and intentional.

The Ralph Lauren look actually has room feels a little more like the “lakeside cottage” version of Ralph Lauren, a little more country-inspired.

Here’s a look at the RL Christmas aesthetic straight from the brand! I pulled this photo from the Ralph Lauren website. The big (little) thing I’m taking away from this photo is actually the tinsel on the tree. It feels so nostalgic but somehow sophisticated in this context.

And finally, we have the RL look straight from the man himself. This is Ralph’s home in Bedford, NY (which also shows mixed plaids, so I’m starting to doubt this rule). This is like the ultimate post-Christmas dinner room to hang our and drink wine by the fire in.
