Why I Love The Hues Custom Curtains
Window treatments tend to be one of those elements that gets put off or skimped out on when decorating a room — something we skip over for months (or years) in favor of spending money on the “bigger” pieces for a space, like furniture or a rug.
But, if there’s one thing I’ve learned over the last few years is that drapery might seem like a smaller detail in a room, but it’s actually something that can make a huge difference. I’m a big advocate for buying the best-quality curtains you can afford. If that’s a pair from IKEA, great! I have IKEA curtains in my family room, and a pair from Amazon in my office. However, the very best option when you’re purchasing drapery is to go for something custom. Custom curtains go a long way towards making a room look finished, tailored and luxurious, even if the rest of the items in the room are more budget-friendly.

Would you like to save this?
Plus, the options for custom curtains have come a long way in the last decade. You no longer need an interior designer or a drapery workroom (and thousands of dollars) to get custom window treatments. I recently got a pair for my bedroom from a company called The Hues, and they’re gorgeous and affordable (as far as custom drapes go, at least).
My Experience with The Hues Custom Curtains
When I started looking for curtains for our primary bedroom, I knew I wanted something that would feel elevated and timeless. The space has a large French door that lets in a ton of light — which is wonderful during the day, but not so great when you’re trying to sleep in on a weekend morning. I’d been using velvet blackout panels for the last few years, but they were never quite right for the room, and I wanted something that actually added to the aesthetic of instead of feeling like an afterthought.
After doing a bit of research on custom drapery companies, I came across The Hues, and their mix of style, quality, and affordability immediately caught my attention. Their website is clean and easy to navigate, and I loved how many options they offer — from linen and linen blends to velvet and sheers, plus roman shades and even drapery hardware. Plus, they promise custom curtains in 7 days, which was one of the faster timelines I’d seen.
The Ordering Process

The customization process at The Hues is refreshingly simple. You start by choosing your style and color (they’ll send free swatches if you’re unsure), then select your header style, and any add-ons like tie-backs or memory training. I went with the Zoe Linen Look Custom Blackout Curtain in Ivory White, and added a Double French Pinch Pleat header, which gives the curtains that polished, designer look and also allowed me to hang them on rings for a more tailored finish (plus easy open-close, since these curtains aren’t just for show).

Like I said, since these curtains were going on the French doors in our bedroom, I wanted the blackout option— and I can honestly say they’re some of the best blackout curtains I’ve owned. They do a great job of blocking out the light, even with the morning sun pouring through that big glass door.
The Zoe curtains also come without the blackout lining, though, if you need something more sheer.
The final option I added on was something I was so excited to try: I had the curtains memory trained. This basically means the company irons and clips them for a few weeks before shipping them in order to “train” the pleats into the fabric. This makes the curtains look extra crisp and clean when hung.
The total cost with my add ons was about $400/panel. My panels were 90″ long x 58″ wide each, so pretty sizable.
The Quality

When the curtains arrived, I was immediately impressed with the fabric and construction. The pleats were crisp from the memory training, the stitching was perfect, and the material had just the right amount of weight and drape. You can tell these aren’t mass-produced panels — the quality feels on par with something you’d get through a designer workroom, but for a fraction of the price.
(Also – I can’t comment on the 7 day shipping, because I went with the memory training which added on a couple of weeks to my order!)

The color I chose complements our bedroom beautifully and adds a layer of softness and texture to the space. The blackout lining also adds a bit of heft, which helps the curtains hang perfectly and feel substantial.
The Price

One of the things I love most about The Hues is that their pricing makes custom drapery attainable. Depending on your fabric choice and size, you can get truly custom curtains for under $300 per panel — a fraction of what most designer workrooms charge. Given the quality and finish, I honestly think they’re one of the best values out there right now.
My Verdict
Overall, I’m so happy with my experience with The Hues. The process was easy, the price was good, and the final product is beautiful. If you’re looking to upgrade your window treatments and want something that looks custom (because it is) without the custom price tag, I can’t recommend The Hues enough.
