If there’s one thing I love in life, it’s a good bin store. Bin stores, also known as liquidation stores, are basically warehouses or retail stores that sell bins of unused goods.

Bin store inventory comes from Amazon returns, Target salvage, Walmart overstock, etc. Most large retailers who have items they can’t sell, whether because they’re open box items, returns, slightly imperfect goods, past season items, or just something that the store has too much of, will liquidate these items in bulk to resellers. The resellers then sell the goods in a bin store, or liquidation store.

When I shop at bin stores, I’m usually looking for furniture, decor, or homewares, but you’ll find all sorts of things at bin stores, from clothing, to electronics, to even toiletries and perishables.

There are a few reasons I love this shopping model. For one, it’s a great way to get a deal on something brand new. At the bin store near me, I bought a bunch of Target furniture for our Vermont cabin/Airbnb for a fraction of what it would have cost had I paid full price, which gave me more room in my budget for the good stuff.

And two, it helps keep all kinds of things from going into a landfill. Now this is a very loose analogy so don’t at me, but it kind of reminds me of getting a dog from a shelter vs. getting one from a breeder. You’ve got plenty of inventory that needs to be saved, so why not make that your first stop?

The final reason is because it’s fun. Shopping at a bin store is sort of like a treasure hunt because you never know what you’re going to get.

What is a bin store?

Bin stores are retail stores, warehouses, and sometimes even individual sellers with storage units, that buy pallets of returns and overstock inventory from retail giants and manufacturers, and then sell those items at a discount.

You’ll often find merchandise from Amazon, Target, Walmart, Kohl’s, Home Depot, and more.

If you’re wondering “is there a bin store near me,” there’s a good chance the answer is yes, as these resellers are becoming more and more popular across the U.S.

How to find a bin store

There are a few ways to find a bin store.

Of course, you can always Google “bin stores near me” and see what you come up with. Sometimes this works out! But, I also find that because a lot of these stores are smaller, and rely on foot traffic, not online sales, many of them don’t even have a website.

What most of them do have, however, is a Facebook page. I’ve found most of the bin stores near me on Facebook, and more specifically, through Facebook marketplace. See, while a lot of these sellers don’t have websites, they are trying to entice customers to come into their stores by posting their items on Marketplace.

I found the bins stores near me because I noticed that certain sellers had dozens or even hundreds of listings of brand new, sort of random items that ranged from furniture, to kids toys, to electronics.

I clicked on one of the seller profiles, and found out that an Amazon warehouse store called Kathalow Warehouse Treasures was about a half hour from my house (the store is also a Target salvage store).

Bin store hauls are also popular on TikTok and Instagram, so searching there can be a good way to uncover bin stores near you, too.

How cheap are bin stores?

Bin store pricing varies, since each store tends to have its own pricing strategy. Some bin stores offer a certain percentage off retail price, usually around 50%. This is how it is at the bin store near me in Connecticut, Kathalow Warehouse. Others, have a price per item model, or a price-per-item model that varies based on the day of the week.

At Bin Hunt in Tennessee, for example, every item is between $1-$7 depending on the day:
