12 Christmas Color Schemes Beyond Red and Green

I love decorating for Christmas. In fact, one of the things that sold me on our house when we first looked at it 7 years ago was was how pretty I thought it would look decorated for Christmas. (It also happens to be located in the Christmas tree capital of Connecticut! It’s a whole vibe here around the holidays.)

As much as I love a classic red and green moment, I also love switching things up a bit and trying slightly different variations on traditional Christmas color schemes, too. It feels a little more personal and less expected, plus it’s just fun to try new things every year.

If you’re thinking about skipping the red and green this year, here are some unique Christmas color schemes to try out.

Green, gold and orange

A few years ago I wanted to do a more natural, minimalist take on Christmas decor. I was really into drying orange slices and making garlands, so I let that lead the rest of the decor. I incorporated pinecones and cinnamon sticks to play up the more organic elements, made some DIY flocked velvet ornaments, and added in metallic baubles and white lights for a little Christmas shimmer. Overall, it’s one of my favorite Christmas decor schemes we’ve had.

Dusty Blue & Red

I used dusty blue ribbon in my decor last year and it was definitely a favorite, and I love how Lindsay of Country Girl Home incorporated it into her tree, especially with the cherry red and white accents. I have this one saved on my own Pinterest board for my living room tree this year!

Cream and metallics

Blue & White

One of the reasons I like alternatives to standard red-and-green Christmas decor is because sometimes, it just doesn’t suit the look of a house. In the home above, bright red and forest green would feel harsh, so I love the way Stephanie at Designer Life Mom followed the existing color palette of her home when decking her halls.

Green, Blue & Red

No need to ditch red and green altogether in order to get a more unique holiday decor vibe. Adding blue, in the form of classic delft ceramics and tartan-plaids, adds a Ralph Lauren-vibe to your Christmas decor.

Burgundy, Bronze & Beige

This look feels like a cozier, more toned-down version of classic red-and-green, silver and gold, right? To get the look, pair burgundy and bronze flocked ornaments with an assortment of champagne and pale-gold options.

Dusty Pink, Orange, and Berry

I spotted this on Instagram a couple of years ago and it stopped me in my tracks (/scroll). The pink, red, and orange are such an unexpected holiday color combo, but somehow it still feels Christmassy and festive.

Monochrome Green

In spaces that are heavy on the neutrals, like this one, I always love the approach of relying on greenery to tell the Christmas tale. It just goes so well with the elevated, serene atmosphere that neutral homes have. In fact, one time I interviewed Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent (known for their love of neutrals) about their Christmas decorating style, and they said it’s all about the greenery in their house.

All the Colors

Well, not really all of them, but a lot of them! Mixing bright hues like blue and pink into your decor feels preppy and traditional, but fun at the same time. This would be perfect for households with young kids that love color, and moms that want a more sophisticated vibe.

Gray & Copper

Mixing different shades of gray with copper and camel is sort of an elevated, very 2025 take on neutral Christmas decor. It’s neutral, but a little moody, too.

Orange, Blue & Brown

This feels like a slightly more saturated version of the gray & copper look, above, right? I always like decorating with orange pomander and dried orange garlands, so orange ends up in my own holiday decor color scheme a lot, and I love the way it pairs with soft blue and brown.

Blue & White

I think everything that Courtney from French Country Cottage does is stunning, and this blue and white Christmas tree is no exception! I think the key to the charm here is using various shades of blue, white and metallics, as well as different textures like ribbon and glass, so it feels collected and not too perfect.

Eggplant & Orange

Another unexpected combo, but I love it. Deep reds and purples have been trending in home decor for the last few years, so why not dip your toe into the look over the holidays?
