10 furniture stores like cb2

cb2 is one of the top furniture stores for modern, trendy style, but if you’re not finding exactly what you’re looking for, or your home is starting to look like a cb2 showroom and you want to mix it up a bit,, or you want less expensive or higher quality furniture, I’m here to tell you that cb2 is not the only team in the contemporary, mid-range furniture game.

There are a wide variety of stores like cb2 out there. And by out there, I mean both bricks-and-mortar locations, and on the internet, so you’ll have options no matter where you live. Some are more expensive, some are less expensive. Some are more traditional, some are more bohemia….You get the idea.

Here are ten furniture stores similar to cb2 to help you find the contemporary design you’ve got your mind’s eye on.

Stores like cb2

1. Room & Board

The furniture at Room & Board is a touch more Pottery Barn than what you’ll find at cb2, so give their collection a look if you’re in search of simpler or more transitional furniture and decor styles. Room & Board has a large selection of customizable furniture, that’s high quality and timeless, as well as trendier decorative pieces.

2. West Elm

Aside from cb2, West Elm is probably the best known modern furniture retailer. West Elm tends to be a bit more bohemian and midcentury, while cb2 goes more for a glam, urban look. For example, where you might find more walnut dining tables with tapered legs at West Elm, you’ll see more marble tables in 80s silhouettes at cb2. However, lots of the furniture styles each retailer overlap and work well together.

3. Joybird

Joybird specialized primarily in furniture that’s midcentury-inspired and handmade. Their known especially for the sofas and upholstery, which can be custom ordered in a wide range of fabrics and colors, but they also make dining room, bedroom and home office furniture. Joybird is primarily an online retailer, but they do have a handful of stores in major cities.

4. LuLu & Georgia

Lulu & Georgia is quickly becoming a go-to store for all things on-trend in home decor, and it’s one of my top online furniture stores. Their boho-cool assortment of furniture is high-quality and hip, and feels like it was personally curated by Erin Gates or Sarah Sherman Samuel … which is probably because they’ve done incredible designer collaborations with both, not to mention Bobby Berk, Clare V., and Ellen (yes, that Ellen). Lulu & Georgia also offers a mix of their own original collections and brands like Arteriors, Chilewich, Ollie Ella, and more.

5. Crate & Barrel

Crate & Barrel is a trustworthy source for quality furnishings at mid-range prices. The style is more transitional than cb2 (cb2 is, after all, Crate & Barrel’s modern younger sister), but you’ll find lots of products that are complementary to the selections at cb2.

6. Urban Outfitters

If you’re drawn to cb2 for its trendier pieces, check out Urban Outfitters. UO is an unexpectedly awesome (not to mention affordable) spot for modern & on-trend decor like throw pillows, wall art, and accent furniture. They’ve also got a good selection of smaller-scale apartment furniture.

7. BluDot

Blu Dot designs all of its furniture in a contemporary, sleek style that’s a bit more minimalist than what you’ll find at cb2. Everything is very clean and simple, but thoughtfully designed. It’s perfect for furnishing a city apartment, or if you’re looking for sleek pieces to balance out more traditional forms.

8. Rejuvenation

Rejuvenation is a mix of vintage, modern, and traditional pieces and is a slightly more ‘handsome’ version of cb2. It’s like if cb2 moved to the Pacific Northwest and liked strong coffee. Rejuvenation is an awesome place to shop for lighting, hardware and plumbing fixtures (think cabinet pulls, bathroom towel bars, shelving brackets, stair hardware, sinks, faucets, etc. etc.), and furniture. They also have a great selection of vintage items and antiques.

9. Arhaus

If you like contemporary design but are looking for something a bit more organic or rustic, try Arhaus. A lot of Arhaus furniture has the clean lines that you’ll find at cb2 but the style overall is more transitional, where cb2 tends to skew more trendy.

10. Home Goods

Home Goods isn’t exactly like cb2 because it has decor and furniture in all kinds of styles: modern, contemporary, traditional, farmhouse, boho, you name it. But, some of the home accessories, lighting, and accent furniture (like coffee tables and dining chairs) they do have overlaps with cb2 from an aesthetic standpoint. The price point at HomeGoods tends to be less expensive than cb2.

Other stores like cb2

A few other shops to consider that are more specialized include France & Sons and Design Within Reach, as well as mass retailers like like Amazon, Target, and even Kirkland’s.

Is cb2 owned by West Elm?

cb2 is a store like West Elm, but it’s not, in fact, owned by West Elm. cb2 is owned by Crate & Barrel, while West Elm is owned by Williams Sonoma, Inc.
