Barefoot Dreams Blanket Review – Is it worth it?

Is the Barefoot Dreams blanket worth its hefty price tag? Here’s my Barefoot Dreams blanket review after owning these blankets for the last 8 years.

I got my first Barefoot Dreams blanket (the CozyChic blanket – Style 503) as a gift when I had my first son back in 2015. This is the brand’s most popular style, that all the celebs (like the Kardashians and Hailey Bieber) love.

At the time, I actually had no idea what a Barefoot Dreams blanket was. All I knew about the blanket until that point was that it was the most comfortable blanket I’d ever used, and I spent many of my early days as a new mom snuggled under it.

I never noticed the brand of the blanket I was gifted until I saw an influencer talking about Barefoot Dreams blankets on Instagram. I looked down at the blanket I was wrapped up in and noticed that it was very similar, so I checked the tag and realized it was actually from Barefoot Dreams. Who knew it was a thing?

If you’re here, then you probably know it’s a thing. And you might be wondering whether the Barefoot Dreams blanket is actually all that comfortable, and whether it’s worth the $125+ you’ll spend on it.

Let me be the one to tell you: Yes, they do live up to the hype. Barefoot Dreams blankets are worth the price.

At the same time, Barefoot Dreams blanket is expensive, so it’s not exactly a cheap home decor buy.

If you’re thinking about buying a Barefoot Dreams blanket for yourself, or potentially as a gift (I love it as a gift idea – literally anyone would appreciate this thing), let me help you decide! Here’s my complete review, including a softness and style overview, what the blankets are made of, and where to find them on sale pretty much all year round!

Barefoot Dreams Blanket Review – Overview

Overall, I find the Barefoot Dreams blanket to be amazing. I’ve had mine for eight years now, and It’s been my favorite throw blanket since the day I got it.

I own probably 20 throw blankets between my home and in our Vermont cabin, so I’ve tried quite a few, but nothing else really compares.

If you’re looking for a blanket that you’ll look forward to snuggling up in every night for the next 10 years, this is the blanket.

So why is it so great?

Barefoot Dreams blanket – function

It’s soft, it’s warm, and it’s got some stretch, which you don’t think you need in a throw blanket until you own a throw blanket with a little stretch. It’s a medium weight, in that it’s not the warmest throw blanket I own, but it’s also not the lightest. It’s just all-around cozy.

I also like that it’s easy to care for. I have a number of throw blankets that are an acrylic-wool material — the kind of throw blanket that has fringey-tassles on the end, and that cost $29.99 at HomeGoods, and they just never look all that great after I wash them. Sort of matted and pilly and never quite as soft. The Barefoot Dreams blanket washes perfectly, which is a must when you have a dog and three kids.

Barefoot Dreams blanket – style

Style-wise, the blanket it pretty basic. I’d consider it more of a function-first throw blanket than something that makes a style statement. It’s not my favorite blanket, looks-wise, and not one I’d use to add style to my sofa. It’s strictly a snuggling blanket, and I’m OK with that.

When it’s not in use, I put it in a blanket basket on the side of my couch instead of displaying it on the sofa.

What are Barefoot Dreams blankets made of?

A close up of my Barefoot Dreams blanket

Barefoot Dreams blankets are made from 100% polyester, and the fabric is a microfiber with a subtle stretch.

The material not only makes it super soft, but incredibly easy to care for, since you can just throw it in the washer and dryer as needed. The blankets are designed in a way that they don’t shrink, pill, or wrinkle in the wash, too, which is awesome if you live in a house with small children or pets, and wash your throw blankets on the regular.

Are Barefoot Dreams blankets worth it?

I love my Barefoot Dreams blanket, and use it almost every day in the winter. It’s my whole family’s favorite blanket, and luckily, large enough to stretch across two adults and three small children when we’re all piled closely together on the couch.

Even though Barefoot Dreams blankets are expensive, if you think about it like clothing, i.e. from a “cost per wear” perspective, they’re actually incredibly cheap. Let’s say that I used my blanket every day for four months out of the year, for the last seven years. That comes out to 17 cents every time I use it. In that case, it’s totally worth it.

At the same time, I have to be honest and say that I do think the blankets are overpriced for what they are. They’re made from polyester, and made in China, which means the cost to make them is probably pretty cheap – I’d guess under $20 a blanket. Would I still shell out for a replacement when mine starts to get a little too grubby? I would, simply because I know how much I use it.

That brings me to my next point though…the blankets are almost always on sale, if you do a little digging.

Where to find Barefoot Dreams blankets on sale

Yes, the Barefoot Dreams blankets do go on sale, even the popular Barefoot Dreams style 503 blanket! The best sales are usually around Black Friday and during the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, but you’ll also find sales at QVC and Nordstrom Rack.

In fact, I’ve also come to discover that Barefoot Dreams blankets are almost always on sale at Nordstrom Rack. The retailer sells various Barefoot Dreams blankets, robes, slippers, etc year round, and the selection changes all the time, but if you look every week or two, you can usually find a few Barefoot Dreams throws on sale for around $60! Which is about 50-60% off the traditional retail price, which makes the blanket 100% worth it in my mind.

At this price, you can grab one for yourself, and another as a gift. (Side note, these blankets are the ultimate gift idea – I gave one that I bought on sale to my mom for her birthday and she’s obsessed with it).

Here are a few blankets I found on sale at Nordstom Rack at the time I published this post (I’ll try to update periodically!)

Do Barefoot Dreams blankets last?

What I’ll say about the blanket is: once you get it, it’ll be your most-used throw blanket. So, it probably won’t look all that great after a couple of years. But you won’t stop using it because it’ll still be comfortable even when it’s not all that attractive.

Given that my son is now almost eight years old, I’ve had my Barefoot Dreams blanket for a pretty long time. After eight-ish years, it definitely doesn’t look new or fresh. It has a few small holes in it. I don’t leave it on the sofa, and instead tuck it in a blanket basket until I’m ready to use it. But, it’s still just as comfortable and cozy as it was when I got it, so I don’t care what it looks like.

Yes, they last a long time.

Overall, this blanket is every bit as amazing as everyone says. Yes, it’s expensive, but it’s sort of like an investment in your personal happiness and self care. Like a gym membership, or a pair of new boots you’ll wear every day. I fully plan to purchase another one when mine gets a little too threadbare.
