Behr Bit of Sugar Review: A Bright White with a Touch of Depth

Last year, when we redid the siding on our house, we also had to re-do the trim. We’d used James Hardie fiber cement board for the siding, but it wasn’t suitable for certain trim areas of the house—we have archways and a handful of other details that couldn’t be made from fiber cement, so the contractor suggested using PVC, instead. It was weather-resistant, and a similar shade of white to the siding.
The one issue? We also had some original wood details on the house that we wanted to keep in place, like railings, and archways on the porch, that we simply wanted to re-paint. So, to avoid adding in a third shade of white on one home facade, I went in search of a white paint that matched the PVC trim.
My original plan was to have the PVC color-matched, but because I’ve had mixed results doing that, especially with white paint, I decided to look at the paint swatches at Home Depot to see if anything was a close match. And I found one!
Behr Bit of Sugar. The color was literally a near-exact match for the PVC trim, and once we painted it on the house, you couldn’t tell the difference between the PVC color and the painted surfaces from a few feet away.
If you’re looking for a bright white for a trim color, exterior color, of even a white cabinet color, this is a beautiful shade. It’s not stark, but doesn’t read cream or beige, either.
Here’s a more in-depth look at this crisp, clean color.
What color is Behr Bit of Sugar?

Bit of Sugar is a bright, neutral off white. I almost hesitate to call it off white since it’s such a bright white, but it does have juuust enough of a warm undertone that it fits the bill.
What are the LRV and Undertones of Behr Bit of Sugar?

Like I said, Bit of Sugar is super bright. Just how bright? It has an LRV, or light reflectance value, of 89, which is just a touch deeper than Benjamin Moore’s Chantilly Lace, which has an LRV of 90. LRV is measured on a scale of 0-100, where 0 is pitch black, and 100 is pure white. Most paint colors fall between 4 and 93, so an LRV of 89 is pretty bright.
As far as undertones go, Bit of Sugar is a pretty neutral paint color, with slightly warm undertones. It has RGB (Red, Green, Blue) Values of RÂ 244Â GÂ 242Â BÂ 236. When these values are fairly equal, it means the paint color is neutral. You’ll notice the blue value is slightly lower, and the red and green values are slightly higher, which means it leans just a smidge warm.
Behr Bit of Sugar Compared to Other Popular White Paint Colors
Behr Bit of Sugar vs. Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace

As I mentioned, Chantilly Lace is a pretty comparable paint color to Bit of Sugar. Chantilly Lace is considered on of Benjamin Moore’s truest whites, but you can see, above, that it has a slightly cooler, more green-gray undertone. So, if you love Chantilly Lace but want something ever-so-slightly deeper/warmer, Bit of Sugar might be the perfect fit.
Behr Bit of Sugar vs. Benjamin Moore White Dove

I’m drawing this comparison to show how bright Bit of Sugar is. Benjamin Moore White Dove is a go-to off white with a beige undertone that’s still considered super bright, but it’s still not as bright as Bit of Sugar. If you are looking for more noticeable warmth from your white paint color, you may want to check out a deeper off white.
Behr Bit of Sugar vs. Sherwin Williams White Snow

Sherwin Williams White Snow is a popular bright white for trim, doors, and exteriors. It actually has an LRV of 91, which makes it brighter than Bit of Sugar, but it also has a more noticeable warm undertone.
Behr Bit of Sugar In the Wild
I had a hard time finding a ton of images of Bit of Sugar in other homes, but I did manage to find a few!
But first, here are a few more of the color on my porch, in slightly different lighting.
Bit of Sugar on an Exterior

Above you can see how well Bit of Sugar matched the PVC trim (on the ceiling and the straight-edge trim pieces). But, you can also see that it has a touch of warmth which is more obvious against the siding, which is a cooler-tone white .

Here’s a look at the color in a bathroom. You can see how bright white it is compared to the tile in the space.
Behr Bit of Sugar as a Whole Home Color

Honestly I think Bit of Sugar would make a great whole home color, AKA the color you paint all of your connecting spaces like hallways, great rooms, and staircases. It’s such a neutral, bright white that it could easily complement a variety of spaces.
Overall, if you’re looking for a bright, versatile white that doesn’t feel cold (or, you know, a white paint that matches PVC) this one is a great choice!
