The big home stores like Crate & Barrel are often the first stop if you’re looking to buy furniture, kitchenware, household items or home decor, and for good reason.

Crate & Barrel (and similar retailers) are attractive shopping options because they offer a mix of high-quality items, moderate price points, and a contemporary-yet-classic style that works with all sorts of aesthetics. But, that still doesn’t mean you’ll always find everything you’re looking for in a single shopping trip (and honestly, it’s not a decorating best-practice to buy everything from the same store). If you’ve tried your luck at Crate & Barrel but didn’t quite find what you’re looking for, or you simply want to expand your style horizons, you’ve got options.

1. Pottery Barn

Aside from Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn is one of the largest furnishing retailers in the U.S. Like C&B, Pottery Barn offers custom and in-stock upholstery and furniture, a selection of homewares, and home accessories like rugs, bedding, and throw pillows. While both retailers offer transitional-style furnishings, the Pottery Barn aesthetic leans a little more traditional/cottage-style than Crate & Barrel, which tends to be on the contemporary side of traditional.

2. CB2

CB2 is Crate & Barrel’s hip younger sister. Its style is more contemporary and trend-focused than Crate & Barrel, and the furniture is also typically smaller scale (you won’t find Crate & Barrel’s large sectional sofas at CB2). Price points are comparable, though CB2 is ever-so-slightly cheaper. CB2 also doesn’t offer custom upholstery options.

3. Arhaus

If you like Crate & Barrel, but are looking for more modern or contemporary options (more similar to CB2 or West Elm), try Arhaus. A lot of Arhaus furniture has a similar tailored, transitional aesthetic that you’ll find at Crate & Barrel, but it’s more sleek and urbane. Full disclosure: It’s also more expensive. 4. Room & Board

From a style standpoint, Room & Board furniture is more contemporary than Crate & Barrel, but only slightly. So, if you love the sofa options at Create & Barrel but want other fabrics, or you loved a Crate & Barrel dining table but need different dimensions, try Room & Board. Like Crate & Barrel, Room & Board is a great place to look for those staple furniture items like sofas, coffee tables, dining chairs, and beds.

5. West Elm

Aside from cb2, West Elm is probably the best known modern furniture retailer, so if you’re in the market for quality furniture in a midcentury style, check out West Elm. West Elm tends to be a bit more bohemian and midcentury than both Cb2 and Crate & Barrel. Like Crate & Barrel, you’ll also find household items like dinnerware, drinking glasses, and bathroom accessories at West Elm.

6. Restoration Hardware (RH)

If it’s furniture that you’re looking for, try Restoration Hardware. Restoration Hardware is another large furniture retailer and manufacturer, known for it’s high quality furniture and its signature look, which is rustic, romantic, and sophisticated. Overall, RH is more expensive than Crate & Barrel, and the majority of Restoration Hardware’s options are neutral, so if you’re in need of a large-scale piece in a timeless neutral, try RH.

7. Williams Sonoma Home

Aesthetically, there’s a lot of crossover between Williams Sonoma and Crate & Barrel. The main difference is that Williams Sonoma is more of a high-end furniture store than Crate & Barrel, so prices are more expensive.

8. Grandin Road

Grandin Road is known for its seasonal decor like holiday throw pillows and outdoor furnishings. But, over the last few year, the brand has become a year-round destination for furnishings and decor. The Grandin Road style is a bit more similar to Pottery Barn in that it skews rustic/farmhouse, but you can find larger furniture pieces that share a transitional look with C&B.

9. Frontgate

Like Grandin Road, Frontgate stated out as more of a specialty retailer, selling mostly outdoor items. While you’ll still find almost anything you could want to decorate the exterior of your home (mailboxes, welcome signs, wreaths and more), they also have a large range of accent furniture and decorations for indoors.

10. Ballard Designs

Ballard is a mid-range furniture and decor store that sells timeless, traditional furniture and decor. Their selection skews more towards fresh-traditional style, It’s well-suited to coastal homes, grandmillennial spaces, and those who want a classic home that still feels relevant and modern. Ballard Designs prices are similar to Crate & Barrel.

11. Rejuvenation

Rejuvenation is another retailer that’s owned by Williams Sonoma, Inc., so it’s technically Pottery Barn’s sister store. The Rejuvenation look is rooted in tradition, but has a trendier, Americana feel. 12. Horchow

Similar to stores like Wayfair, Horchow doesn’t design and sell its own products, it sources its collection from independent furniture brands like Sarreid, Bernhardt, Palacek, and Safavieh.

Is CB2 cheaper than Crate and Barrel?

Whether CB2 is cheaper than Crate & Barrel depends on the category. As Crate & Barrel’s “younger sister” CB2 furnishings tend to be smaller and trendier, and without customization options, which makes certain CB2 items less expensive than their Crate & Barrel counterparts. But overall, CB2 is not cheaper than Crate & Barrel.
