Rumor Has It That THIS Is Behr’s 2025 Color of the Year

It’s the end of August, which means it’s time to start predicting next year’s paint color trends. Right around the start of Q4 every year, all the big paint brands begin to name their “Color of the Year” for the next 12 months … the “it” shade they’re banking on making its way into our collective Instagram feeds and, if we’re feeling trendy, our homes.

Behr did us the honor of going first with their color pick this year, and I can’t say I’m surprised by the shade. It’s gorgeous, and it’s a color I’ve been seeing everywhere for the past two years, but especially the last six months or so.

Drumroll please ….

The color is called Rumors [MQ1-15], and it’s a gorgeous shade of burgundy red that Behr says “has a warm energy and elegant ambience that confidently allows you to express yourself and brings a touch of luxe into any living space.”

Rumors (MQ1-15)

I’ve been seeing this shade of red everywhere lately! It’s honestly not something I would have chosen for myself a couple of years ago (I even did an Instagram reel recently about how I demo’ed my burgundy tiled 1950s bathroom in 2022, which was basically the year everyone decided dark red was cool again). But now, I love it. Funny thing about trends, eh?

If you go for a dark red like Rumors, I think you need to go bold. It’s the perfect candidate for color-drenching, i.e. painting the walls, trim, and perhaps even the ceiling in a smaller space like a powder room. I’ve had this gorgeous family room by Whittney Parkinson saved on my IG feed for a few months now and I think it’s the perfect inspiration for how to use Rumors or any other dark red in 2024. (I’m not sure of the exact shade she used here, however)…

I’m also going to make a prediction.

I’ve been following these trend forecasts for like, a decade now, and it’s funny. Some years, all the brands are on a totally different page, and others, it’s like they all got together over drinks and decided to pick the same shade (like in 2022, when Benjamin Moore picked October Mist and Sherwin Williams chose Evergreen Fog and Behr chose Breezeway | Sea Glass Green, which are all shades of sage).

I think this year is going to be one of those years where every brand picks a similar color. This shade of red hasn’t been seen in interiors in a loooong time, and now that it’s coming back, it’s going to be big, and all the brands will be taking notice.

What do you think of Rumors and the dark red trend? Love it? Hate it? Gonna use it?
