11 Gorgeous Living Room Paint Color Ideas for 2025
Looking for some color inspiration for your living room? Today I’m sharing 11 of my favorite living room color ideas.

When we moved into our house back in 2018, I had a very clear vision for our living room paint colors. I wanted warm white walls with a black fireplace to create a tailored, timeless vibe. I painted the walls Benjamin Moore Simply White (they were a lovely shade of cotton candy pink when we moved in), and the fireplace Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron (it was painted a lovely marbleized pink), and I’ve been so happy with it.

Exceeept, seven years later, I feel like I’m ready to switch it up. As timeless and classic as white is, I’ve been thinking about trying a color on the walls and trim to add a little depth to the room. I still love the white, I’m just looking for a change.
While I have a color in mind (I’ll share below), I found all sorts of inspiring living room color ideas that were too pretty not to share.
My favorite living room paint ideas
Pale Gray Blue

This might be my favorite living room color idea right now. This is the home of blogger Anna Page, and I love how the gray-blue color is subtle but still creates such a mood. She used Farrow & Ball Light Blue, but for a similar look you can try Benjamin Moore Wales Gray, Benjamin Moore Imperial Gray, or Sherwin Williams Silvermist. I also have a whole blog post dedicated to my favorite blue-gray paint colors.
Rich Blue Gray
I also love the idea of going a little deeper with the blue-gray tones, especially in a traditional room where you’ll be incorporating lots of color and pattern, like in the room above. This space is Farrow & Ball Oval Room Blue, but you can try Benjamin Moore Providence Blue or Blue Spruce for a similar vibe.
Color-Drenched Sage Green

If you’re torn between using a color or a neutral, I think a green-gray shade is the perfect happy medium. Farrow & Ball French Gray is a pretty sage green with a strong neutral undertone that makes it feel elegant and not-too-bright.
Rich Burgundy

I would never have thought I’d be suggesting anyone ever paint a living room burgundy, but here we are. Rich red tones have become a major home color trend in the last three years, and it’s grown on me. I love a dark-red wall with white and neutral furnishings. One caveat to this look, though, is that if you do it, you need to color drench the room and paint the trim, too. White trim and burgundy walls feels very 90s.
Creamy Yellow

How sophisticated is this room? It’s the living room in artist Josh Young’s country home in Virginia, and I’m obsessed. A rich yellow with neutral undertones makes an unexpected, yet classic alternative to white or cream, especially in a room that’s filled with neutral furniture.
Mauve

Speaking of colors I never thought I’d suggest people paint their living rooms…Mauve has made a comeback in the last few years and dare I say… I love it? It’s definitely not for everyone, but if you’re looking for a feminine color that has a bit of elegance and some gravitas, a pinkish-purple with a neutral undertone is a surprising winner.
Mushroom

We used Benjamin Moore Finnie Gray, a rich greige with green undertones, in our family room, and I love it. Mushroom colors are like beige’s bolder and more sophisticated older sister. They pair beautifully with neutrals like cream and black, as well as earth tones like sage, olive, blue-gray and amber.
Neutral contrast trim

Another look I love, and have considered as a way to change things up in my own living room, is adding contrast trim in a soft neutral. I love the way white walls look with a subtle greige or taupe trim. It reminds me of old colonial homes in the best way.
Colored contrast trim

Another way to do the contrast trim look is to go heavy on the contrast by choosing a dark color like navy blue, off-black, deep brown or charcoal gray, paired with white or a neutral wall color. This look is definitely bolder and feels more masculine, so would be great in a living room that doubles as a lounge, library or game room.
All White

You’re right, I did just say that I want to paint my white living room. But, I still love a white look. You really can’t go wrong with an all-white living room, like the one about from designer Shelby Girard. It’s calming, fresh, timeless, and sophisticated all at once. It’s also incredibly versatile since you can make it work with any decor style or color palette. White isn’t the most interesting paint color choice, sure, but it’s also the perfect blank canvas for adding plenty of layers (something I think is a must in a white room to avoid a sterile look).
